In my opinion, 75% of your time should be spent buying and finding domain names, 15% organizing your portfolio and landers, and 10% selling. The money is made on the buy. Great names find buyers. I say spend your time building a quality portfolio and then focus on something else. That something else can be a job or a hobby. Staying busy will make you more money.
I say that because showing the buyer that you control the price and the pace of negotiation leads to higher prices. Your most powerful words are “no thank you” to an offer. For every buyer that walks, one will hit your moonshot price. You can’t get the highest price by accepting a lower one. The way to avoid taking lower offers is to stock up on quality inventory and keep your mind focused on other things that make you happy.
You’ll notice the best prices go to people who don’t need the money and don’t have to say yes. One, because they have money and can wait. Two, because the name is strong and hard to replace, and a seasoned domain investor knows it’ll be tough to find a similar name for less.
So my advice is to take these auctions seriously. Bid up on the high-quality names, and don’t nickel and dime yourself with hundreds of low-quality ones. I get that not everyone can spend thousands on a single name, but you could spend $500 on one solid name instead of registering 50 weak ones. In domain investing, quality beats quantity.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.

Makes sense since you sell plants at a nursery full time to keep busy and to fund your domain buys
I’ve been retired for 3 years and never put one penny from my nursery money into domains. My entire portfolio was funded by 10K back in 2009 from a sale of a website
