Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, October 8th, 2025

A lot of you chimed in Monday and said sales were slow over the last month as well. It’s always good to know it’s not just me, but honestly, I’d rather it be me. That would mean the overall domain economy is still strong. After getting a dozen emails and DMs, a few common thoughts came up about why sales might be down. These are all hypothetical but pretty consistent.

1. Company spending slowdown
Spending is down across companies as they evaluate how the end of the year and next year look. This includes venture-backed firms, growing businesses, and new startups.

2. Uncertainty around tariffs and politics
Ongoing tariff talk and political uncertainty make it hard for businesses to predict costs. It’s tough to buy raw materials or products when prices could swing in a few months. While this doesn’t directly hit domain sales, product-based businesses are definitely feeling the pressure.

3. Distrust in landers and marketplaces
Many investors don’t feel 100% comfortable with any one platform. People keep switching between landers, thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. Namecheap was the flavor of the month for a while, but some are now moving back.

4. Afternic frustrations
Almost everyone mentioned issues with Afternic. Nothing new here—slow load times, 403 errors, Chrome blocking landers, high Boost costs, and so on. Despite all that, they still sell names. We’d just like to see a cleaner page and lower commissions. And yes, everyone wants lower commissions. Even with all that, acknowledgement that a domain must be listed on Afternic if you are a domain investor to get the highest chance of a sale

5. Atom slowing with the market
Atom has been quiet too. I’ve had a strong year there and like how they keep improving the platform. They can only sell when buyers are active, and their stats show my names are getting views. That’s about all you can ask.

6. Namecheap still being tested
Namecheap has saved people money, but it’s too early to know if it leads to better profits. A slow month of sales didn’t help.

7. Optimism for a strong finish
Even with the slowdown, most of the feedback had an optimistic tone. There’s still hope for a solid end to the year.
