I’m as addicted to gambling as anyone. I worked at a dog track and a horse track, took bets, bet sports, traded professionally, and went through the NFT era. I have zero risk aversion. With all that, I still think sports betting and Polymarket betting have gotten out of hand. There is a wager for every second of every day. The dopamine hit is strong and tens of millions of people are mentally wrecked. They are going to need therapy and they are going to lose a lot of money.
It’s also created a new wave of players throwing events. When someone can bet fifty grand on a single pitch and all the pitcher has to do is throw it hard and high, it’s tempting. People always say they make too much money to risk it for fifteen grand. But when you think nobody will notice and all you have to do is fire one high fastball for a Rolex, it becomes very tempting.
Like everything bad for you, the lobbyists are too strong and the money is too big. Pharma ads on TV are a perfect example. People can’t even buy most of those drugs. They have to ask a doctor. But those ads will never be banned because pharma makes up the bulk of the ad spend and the media can’t survive without it.
If I were investing, I would be long companies focused on gambling addiction and recovery. I can list ten large societal problems right now and this sits close to the top.
Quote of the Day: “Once you tie your emotions to a wager, you stop rooting for the sport and start rooting for your anxiety.” -Matt Fitzgerald

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
