Over the past two years, I’ve worked with crypto and blockchain companies to help secure their domain names. There were a lot of solid one word .coms available. Surprisingly, quite a few .xyz and .io names showed up as well, either as add ons or even as the primary brand. What really surprised me was how many teams backed away from a great .com for a few hundred thousand dollars, even when their treasuries held hundreds of millions.
Over the last few days, many of those treasuries have lost 30 to 50 percent of their value. If they had put that money toward a great domain name, they would be sitting on a real asset. Instead, they now have less cash and no name. And for them, that same domain is now harder to justify and more expensive in their own currency as time passes.
I completely understand a company passing when they do not have much money at the start. I actually recommend not spending all your capital on a name if it hurts your operating cash flow. A domain absolutely amplifies your effort and gives you instant authority, but you still have real operating costs.
That said, when a blockchain project can effectively print tokens out of thin air and raise billions, they are not capital constrained. That money should be used to buy durable assets and to fund growth.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
