Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, April 15th, 2026

We’ve got a new advertiser on the site this week, and it’s one that a lot of you will find useful.

Backorder.com ⬅️ is a drop catching platform focused on ccTLDs, with a pretty simple angle, they’re concentrating on a few key TLDs. They’ve been operating in the space since 2016 and recently opened things up more broadly to international users. And the upgraded killer domain name.

What stood out to me is how they approach access and transparency. They publish pending delete lists, allow free backorders with a card on file, and give results the same day the domain drops. They also tie directly into the Identity Digital Dropzone system, which means you can go after names before general availability instead of just fighting it out at the last second. Even thoug registration through Dropzone costs more, it increases your chances at securing your domain name.”

On the TLD side, they’re active in a handful of TLDs, including .ai, .io, .me, .ac, .mu, and .sh through early access, with .ai and .io being where most of the action is.

One thing I didn’t realize, and probably worth paying attention to, is how this plays with places like Namecheap. Some .ai names that show up in auctions there are still available through Dropzone at the same time. If Backorder.com gets the application in first, they can actually secure the domain and those auctions end up getting canceled. So just because you see it at Namecheap doesn’t mean that’s your only path.

Another piece I liked, and something you don’t see everywhere, is that they keep auctions private. If there’s competition, it’s only between people who actually placed a backorder, not thrown into a public feeding frenzy. Here’s exactly how it works

Here’s how it works in plain terms:

  • You can place a backorder up to 14 days before general availability (GA)
  • The earlier you choose, the higher the price, the greater chance of success
  • Each day that passes, the price drops if the domain remains available
  • Dropzone is available to other Identity Digital Registrars who can submit on any day, fastest request will secure the domain that day
  • Waiting for GA may be too late

As each day passes, prices decrease:

  • Day 14 (earliest) → highest price tier → highest chance to secure the domain
  • Day 13, 12, 11… → gradually cheaper tiers → high chance
  • Closer to GA → lowest price tier → lower chance but better chance than GA

And finally,

Anyone at lower tiers is completely out at that point

If Backorder.com catches the domain, whoever backordered at the highest tier wins it outright, even if others placed cheaper backorders

Only if multiple people are at that same highest tier does it go to a private auction between just those users

Worth taking a look if you spend any time chasing drops, especially in extensions like .ai, .io, or other ccTLDs where timing and access matter more than anything.
