DSAD got a first hand look at the .app land rush that happened the last few days. I was looking at the end of day reports that Travis generates for the site and saw that there were a ton of names that led to sales but received 0% commission. Among the revenue were dozens of those no commission names. We often have odd things come through but never so many at the same time. So I emailed Godaddy. Turns out all those sales were readers of the blog buying .app names. (I can’t see who buys or what they buy because of privacy) Godaddy doesn’t pay commission for any sales of new Gs. I’ve always known that but its really never come into play. At least I’ve never noticed. I certainly did this time.
So we see that a good number of .app names were purchased. That’s half of domain investing . Not sure how the second half, selling, will play out. I’m sure some will but I will not be participating . Too many good dot coms to buy and if I’m going off the path I’m going to .io. I’m not telling anyone not to. I’m not stupid enough to pretend that I know what will become hot in domains. I just know I’m willing to come to the party late and buy my way in. Here are today’s domains. Click to see the latest price

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good
I have put ’08cp’ through Google, translators, wikipedia, chinese sites and have come up empty. As far as my research suggests, it has no significant meaning and looks like any regular NNLL.com.
Now if we break it out into 0, 8, c and p respectively we can analyse as so.
0 in Chinese means the beginning of all things and is generally a good number.
8 on its own means to prosper.
c means ‘equal to’
p means ‘household’
From what I gather then, 08cp.com roughly translates to the beginning of all things then prosper equal to the household.
That is the best I came up with.
Dave,
That’s some pretty good research. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Shane. Some further info for you. “A peaceful family will prosper” is a famous and widely embraced saying in Chinese society. This is the closest saying I can find to match my rough translation of “prosper equal to the household”, so could ‘household’ be deemed synonymous with family? Hopefully somebody fluent in Chinese language and numerology can provide better insight and clarification.
CP is “cǎi piào” in Chinese Pinyin, which means lottery ticket. Combine that with an lucky number 8 and you have a winner.
Thanks Franky. That’s definitely it
Bingo. Ah well, I gave it a good try.
By the way, it is interesting to see DriedFood.com expired again. If memory serves me right, I was in auction for that last year and I think it finished just shy of $300, would’ve bid more but forgot about it on the last day to be honest. You had it on your list last year as well https://dsad.com/domain-shanes-daily-list-domains-auction-monday-may-10th/
It’s like Godaddy’s dream name. Auction it off every year
