I don’t typically watch TV, live or streaming, but every once in awhile I’ll binge watch a show. I haven’t watched anything really good in months, probably for a lack of looking. Yesterday I discovered “Dark” a netflix, German original, dubbed in English. It’s probably one of the best extended plot shows I’ve seen in a long time.
It’s one of those shows with crazy concepts that you might need a map or notes to follow along. That’s the best kind of show, though I don’t think they make as many as they used to, too many people can’t follow along. Part of the reason is lack of cognitive ability, but I think the main reason is that people can’t pay attention for 20 minutes let alone 20 hours, without playing with their phones. Every time I picked up my phone I had to go back and play that section of video over.
There’s definitely a difference in quality between a story that demands your full attention and one that you don’t even need to actively watch to understand what’s going on.
Sometimes you might want something mindless, but if you don’t check out “Dark”.
