Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday May 29th, 2020

The effects of COVID are FAR from over but one thing is plain and simple. If you want to buy something that involves home or outdoor activities good luck. That shit is sold out or weeks behind in shipping. All that money that was going to trips, eating out and leisure is being spent. There are a lot of people suffering but as I said a few weeks ago, the stimulus checks, the unemployment with the $600 week bonus is getting spent. And Internet based companies are taking it in. Every single person I talked to is crushing it. Why my friends? Because most of my friends are in the outdoor space or the Internet space. The rest are doctors. Why are my doctor friends doing well?

Turns out their contracts keep them from doing side work within a certain mileage of their office and hospital. But the contracts were written without thinking about telemedicine. So they are doing telemedicine for $75 a 15 minute session and taking in $300 an hour for 5 to 10 hours extra a week. $3K a week side money isn’t too bad to add on to your salary that you’re getting but not going in as often because the hospital appointment are lessened.

So there is pain and suffering but there is also a segment that has now moved up. I say moved up because many of these new customers will come back. Have found something they enjoy. For every business that COVID has hurt there is a business that is taking that money. You’d hear more about it but nobody wants to gloat while others suffer. The news isn’t doing any financial prosperity stories because of the negative feedback they’d get. But they are out there and the earnings reports will show many of them in the upcoming quarter.

PS: Illinois opens today and this weekend looks to be some of the nicest weather we’ve had in years. Should be a big big weekend for everyone

Quote of the Day: “If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery–isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.”

  1. Did anyone see what LeadFish.com went for? I was watching it and got stuck on calls. I did a search for the domain and found this post. 🙂

  2. Your friends are in the minority – most doctors are getting crushed financially right now.

    1. Gordan,

20% are having to take a pay cut.

      https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapsen/2020/04/22/coronavirus-hits-one-in-five-us-doctors-with-pay-cuts-furloughs/#67ed442b2bef

      20% is hardly the majority

But there is no doubt that hospital have a huge crisis on their hands. Before COVID they were having specialist see patients every 15 minutes, even booking 2 patients per 15 minutes. Forcing doctors to read charts at night just to keep the pace. Now they have moved to one every 30 minutes. They were abusing their doctors and turning them into turn and burn doctors. It’s why you can’t find a general family medicine doctor any more. That is the low end of the doctor pay and most won’t work those hours and rate for that pay. New doctors specialize to avoid it. We are about to see a fight between doctors and hospitals. The losers are going to be patients either way

  3. One survey from 5 weeks ago that only referenced pay cuts at that moment isn’t a great measure of how the medical business is doing.

Just about every type of medical practice across the country – from dentists to cardiologists to plastic surgeons to pediatricians has seen a decline (often significant) in revenue over the past 3 months….it is very rough out there for these businesses.

    1. Gordon,
We do agree on that. I agree that all medical was hurt. And will be hurt for years to come. It’s going to take years for dentists to recover, if they do. I don’t mean to downplay any of this. Only that the top doctors that were not in private practice have been getting paid and will continue to. But I guarantee that soon they will be asked to take a pay cut and that’s when the shit hits the fan.
