Man, reading Shane’s comment about some hate mail he’s been receiving is pretty disturbing. I guess some people are not meant to be investors IN ANYTHING if you want to “gut someone like a pig” if you lose money. Ultimately, YOU are responsible for every investment choice that you make, and you are responsible for the gains and losses that result from that decision. With any investment, there is risk and the potential for loss or gain. The higher the potential gain, the higher the risk. Domain investing is highly speculative — which is another way of saying it comes with a lot of risk and the rewards can be just as dramatic.
Prices have fallen in most liquid categories since the end of last year, but they certainly haven’t fallen to where they were at the beginning of last year. In the stock market, any time there is a huge ramp in valuations like that, there will be a pullback while everyone takes a breath. It is human psychology and emotions at work. It is unpredictable. Pullbacks are often followed by surges to new highs. Will that happen with liquid names? I have no idea. I hope so. If not, I’ll certainly lose money on some of my purchases, but I won’t want to gut someone like a pig if that happens, because the losses will be on me and no one else.
