Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with recent data courtesy of DN Journal and historical data from NameBio.

Flips

  • Anonymity.com – Sold recently for $13,433 at Flippa, vs $10,100 at Sedo in 2008. No site resolves yet, but Whois shows the registrant as Just Holdings, LLC, whose site describes the company as, “a corporation which licenses intellectual property, domain names, and technology to third party companies.”

The company owns a related developed site Anonify.com, and I’d guess either a similar website or a rebranding is on the way. “Anonify is an anonymous proxy service which allows anyone to surf the Web privately and securely.”

  • PitchDoctor.com – Sold recently for $2,000 at Sedo, vs $800 at Sedo in 2011. An upgrade from the .de, which is where the .com is forwarded. “Christoph Sollich aka The Pitch Doctor is a freelance startup consultant specializing in business model generation, marketing and – obviously – pitching.

Flops

  • KitchenTowels.com – Sold recently for $2,569 at NameJet, vs $11,000 at DomainNameSales in 2012. It looks like this domain was dropped earlier this year, so the buyer from 2012 likelly had a complete loss on their $11,000 acquisition. Current owner is under privacy protection.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
