Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

LTSE.com sold for 9,990 USD recently at Sedo, vs 211 USD on 2013-12-12 at Sedo. Vowels suck, right? Oh wait, end users don’t follow that rule. Although no site is live yet, and the owner is under privacy protection, I assume for $10k that this is an end user sale.

9.pe sold for 5,862 USD recently at 4.CN, vs 2,094 USD on 2015-07-09 at 4.CN. I’d take nearly a triple in 6 months.

96419.com sold for 745 USD recently at 4.CN, vs 276 USD on 2015-10-23 at 4.CN. Although nearly a triple in 3 months is better (before commissions).

WC.biz sold for 3,559 USD recently at Sedo, vs 928 USD on 2015-08-06 at Sedo.

SodFarm.com sold for 2,200 USD recently at NameJet, vs 985 USD on 2014-10-28 at NameJet.

TheGrain.com sold for 1,600 USD recently at NameJet, vs 390 USD on 2014-10-26 at NameJet.

DesignInc.com sold for 14,000 USD recently at GenericDomainMarket, vs 1,600 USD on 2011-05-18 at NameJet. Nice 8x return. The new owner just started up a new design firm, “We make products people use everyday. We help established companies and startups design and build beautiful products that are simple and easy to use”. The founders have design experience at companies such as YouTube, Google and Evernote.

Flops

CDNH.com sold for 3,000 USD recently at Flippa, vs 2,800 USD on 2015-11-20 at Sedo. Looks nice…….until you factor in those commissions and realize you lost money.

Idling.com sold for 511 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 940 USD on 2015-01-20 at GoDaddy.

CheckFlightStatus.com sold for 284 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 885 USD on 2007-02-03 at GoDaddy. Lots of search volume – 12,000 searches per month, per Estibot – but long, three-word domains are generally out of favor.

DealScene.com sold for 430 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 4,500 USD on 2014-03-26 at GoDaddy. Speaking of out of favor, “deal” domains aren’t quite as hot as they used to be.

RHUP.com sold for 325 USD recently at Flippa, vs 689 USD on 2015-11-23 at NameJet. LLLL domains are hot, but it doesn’t mean you can’t lose money on them.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
