Domain Spotlight:

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

QuickSell.com sold for 9,450 USD recently at Sedo, vs 272 USD on 2007-11-03 at Sedo. It wasn’t quick, but I’d be willing to wait for a nearly 30x return after commission. The domain still shows Sedo in the Whois records, but I’ll guess a residential realtor was the buyer, although that’s only one of many potential end users.

SpotsApp.com sold for 2,250 USD recently at Sedo, vs 150 USD on 2016-02-21 at GoDaddy. A nice 13x return after commission in less than a year. No site resolves yet. There is a site developed on SpotsApp.us, but the owners don’t appear related, per Whois.

Mustangs.net sold for 893 USD recently at Flippa, vs 160 USD on 2016-06-10 at NameJet. The gross dollars won’t make the seller rich, but 5x in less than 6 months is great. Rinse and repeat. (Easier said than done.)

ChemistryTeacher.com sold for 364 USD recently at NameJet, vs 103 USD on 2016-04-25 at Flippa. Same exact comment as Mustangs.net above, although this one was only 3x after commission…..still better than a stick in the eye. This domain was discussed on the most recent DomainSherpa show. I bought it earlier in the year on a whim because I saw it on Shane’s list and thought it looked cheap…..then sold it via the auction we have running.

Flops

KinkyGirl.com sold for 1,501 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 25,000 USD on 2006-02-28 at Moniker. That’s an expensive girl……she lost the seller over $20k.

Limo.co sold for 2,555 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,250 USD on 2010-10-27 via .CO Landrush Auctions. This isn’t a good sign for the .co domains. But, it’s not unexpected either.

GoldenRock.com sold for 1,150 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,990 USD on 2014-01-12 at Afternic.

MoneySaving.com sold for 1,700 USD recently at Flippa, vs 5,750 USD on 2015-05-04 at Sedo. A screenshot of the logo towards the end of last year is below, but I don’t see it ever getting developed past a relatively simple blog-like site.

money-saving

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
