Domain Spotlight: Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Sunday, November 27th

You’ve heard me talk about looking for ways to add revenue and profit to the bottom line of my business.  One of the things I added to our garden center was Christmas Trees.  It’s a natural fit but we didn’t do them because the cheap trees offered no margins, we had to pay extra staff to stay an extra 3 weeks, needed to advertise, and when it was all said and done the profit dollars just weren’t worth doing.  But then I decided to try selling only Fraser Firs, make our own wreaths and sell only cut branches from our fields.  Fraser fir are the best Christmas trees but they tend to be expensive. I figured, lets promote the fact that we sell only the best and that if you wanted the best we would have the best prices on them and if you wanted a junk tree you could go to Wal-Mart or somewhere else.  We also added a machine that drills a hole in the trunk and self levels the tree.  That hold fits a stake stand that you drive in and have a tree and stand that is perfectly level with no adjusting.  The stand is only $20 and can be used year after year……….as long as the tree is drilled with the machine.  Which of course we have.

We also only carried a 100 trees and made them 20% cheaper than anyone in town.  And we sold out in 10 days. The people that got the tree spread the word to their friends that they had purchased an incredible tree at our nursery and it only cost $XX.   That first year we did radio and a few billboards around town.  We pretty much broke even or even lost a little.   The second year we brought in 250 and did radio and social media.  Again we sold out in two weeks and barely had trees for our Christmas open house.  We added live branches and roping from outside sources and they too sold out.  Now we are on year four and we have 1000 trees and sold a ton of them this weekend and should sell out again.  I only have to do some radio ads and a ton of social media and pretty much everyone in town now knows that they can get the best tree they have ever had for $40.   And while they are there they buy some greens and wreath or two.  Its becoming a family tradition for some families.   We added a Santa for pictures to our open house and give free pictures to kids and pets.  Our Christmas program has turned from a “lets keep people coming here and thinking of us as long as we can” program to a real money maker and important revenue source.  I have plans for expansion in the future but its going to another step of investment and planning.  Like all things business.  There is an endless amount of ways to make money. Just have to have the ideas, the people, the time and the money to get it started.  I can usually get two of those.    Here are today’s names.  Click for current price.

Names I Like with Multiple Bids   Former startup that went belly up. Raised $685K in seed money   Certainly the best name on the board.  As expected, lots of bids   17 years old.  Not sure what you’d do with it though   Some would say its racist but older black women are beautiful and many have told me this is why in jest   mmmmm  A delicious sweet potato dumpling..  Or just a brand   Marketing and content are the money makers on the Internet.  Marketing names do very well at auction   Has 4s but still a 5N   The repeating 2s are good enough for the Chinese to buy it   Ditto.  Doing better than I thought with the zero   Chinese  Everyone wants to save a little money.  Not just discount, GIANT discounts   The are getting no bids but the pattern in the numbers is

Domains With One or NO Bids Sounds like a new drug for something you didn’t know was a problem Thousands of them happen every year. Not sure it has a ton of value but there are no bidders Pronounceable 5L with no bids He doesn’t have any, that’s why there are no bids I used to have good luck with short tap names but I sold them all I know its .cc but good email name for $12.. Have to admit you’d remember it One bidder on this 5L I know it has a V but no bidders and probably worth the $12   I get the Fort Knox reference.  Sounds like it would really protect your something   Cool looking name with one bid and 27,000 backlinks  Not a bad canna name for $17    I had an older gentleman tell me he was so old he didn’t buy green bananas   Fly names are still getting bids and being used  Not very expensive gaming name   Its a dot org but don’t find many marijuana names for $17   Sorry if I’m putting too many that are under $20 that are decent brands IMO.

Short Liquid Names

Names That Have Bids

NameJet   This one is hot.  sorry, too easy  That’s what 90% of cards are purchased for  This one sold for a few hundred dollars previously, but no bidders now.    We say the holocaust could never happen again yet in African there has been millions of people killed right in front of our face.  Here’s a name to discuss   A much lighter name.  Every summer in every college town there are tens of thousands of apartments and homes up for sublease     Adult or just cheering you on   Put up lots of cute clickable ads  and  Both have 12 bidders   Like the rest of the similar  this one will probably get past the $500 reserve in the last hour   Its a and that is good enough right now   Good furniture last for every.  Just not the fabric  You tell all your secrets here    Don’t see 4N.coms up very often .  Pretty sure the reserve is high judging by the name below   at a good price but hasn’t met reserve   A nice   Again, all comes down to reserve but I guess that’s always the case  I think this is actually worth more than the current $250 bid   Nobody wants to even touch this one now.

  1. When I am in Europe over Christmas I insist on a real Christmas tree, the missus hates the shedding. Last year I had one in the living room that was billed at 14 but was hitting 16 foot. Christmas in the Caribbean or LATAM doesn’t feel the same, you go shopping in air con and walk outside and it’s 100 in the shade. Fake trees are rubbish too, Christmas is 50% the smell of the tree.

Building up a seasonal part of your business from low $XXXX to $40,000 is no mean feat, congratulations.

    1. Thanks Anthony. I think I need to start getting some 14 foot trees. We had a quite a few people asking for those giant trees. You just reminded me we need to go bigger 🙂 thanks for sharing

  2. Turning it into a family tradition experience is a great idea. We get our tree from the same farm every year. I’m not even sure if it’s a good price because I don’t look around. it’s not just about getting a tree anymore, It’s now about going out and tagging a tree we like in November, then the first week in December we go cut it down, drink hot chocolate and cook hotdogs over the camp fire. The tree farm provides everything, they have successfully turned tree shopping into a Christmas tree event.
