But then came Nick Saban, Championships, and football revenue. To the tune of $180 million a year. Add in a $300 million dollar Nike contract and Alabama started raking in the money. So what did the do with the money. They invested in a new campus. And the students

Alabama bought the land next to campus, , known as Bryce Hospital and doubled the size of the school. They built some of the nicest dorms in the country and beautiful new buildings. And here is the kicker. If you got a 31 (now 32) or higher on the ACT tuition is free at Alabama. That’s right. If you are one have a high enough test score you can go to Alabama for free. Alabama is still not one of the top educations right now but a free education is still one of the best you can get. The result? Student population doubled. Average ACT on campus skyrocketed. And out of state students started coming in droves after seeing how nice their dorms and campus would be compared to others. Visit Alabama now and you see an amazing academic institution. All built based on football money. Which led to other revenue and growth. Now they are having a $600 million dollar private fund raise for more improvements on sports facilities and other campus facilities. Alabama already has the nicest sports facilities and the best dorms in the country. Soon they will have the best campus in the country. And all because of the revenue of the best football program. I’m always doubtful when people suggest that major sports program is a benefit to the entire school.

Sounds like Alabama actually has made smart reinvestments with the money.
