I can’t post today without mentioning the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter yesterday. Anyone with children know that we know that our day will come but we take solace in the fact our children will carry on what we’ve taught them and the memories we made with them. To me that’s what was so tough. That and the though of her Mother knowing what her daughter had to go through and not be able to hold and comfort her. I genuinely was excited to see his daughter become a public figure. The child of one of the greatest athletes ever to have played basketball and a man that was also one of the hardest working people to ever grace athletics. You hear old people talk about starting with fundamentals. They were talking about Kobe. He had the best ever seen.
If you ever wanted to know what tenacity looked like you merely had to watch Kobe Bryant. The man was always all in. Always the first to the gym and the last out. Working on his mental health, his physical health, and finally on his basketball. He was the first generation that understood that in order to become great, you had to had to bring the best you to the event. I grew up a Michael Jordan fan so I always put him second to Michael but I respected the hell out of everything he did. I’m saddened that I won’t get to see the great things that he and his daughter were going to accomplish.
Whether you know about or care about Kobe Bryant. It’s still a great time to be remembered to not take life for granted. You hear me say it all the time here. Call your parents, hug your kids and spouse, and live your best life. Nothing is guaranteed and if you wait for great things you’ll miss the good.
