I worked today, myself and a few other guys went down to the Potomac river to test Drone recon. It was the first flight over the river and it worked great. The idea is to be able to quickly search for victims from the air and then to guide other rescue resources to the victims. The drone was a regular model, nothing fancy but with a decent camera. It was pretty cool to see that we can now cover a large section of river quickly without committing rescue resources to the wrong area.
It’s just a tool and there are many other options in our arsenal and training still needs to be done on numerous things, but I’m pretty excited about the possibilities of rescue drones.
