Looks like I have another business about to start up. We have a company that does snow removal and salting and we’re getting our first snow this weekend although its not supposed to stick. Most business you try and increase your revenue and keep the costs stable. In plowing your goal is to keep the costs down. Each year we get our costs down by getting equipment that lets us do our job quicker. We get a certain amount for each snow and salt and if we can get it done quicker we don’t have to pay employees and can do more jobs. Yes that equipment costs money but we’ve managed to buy some great plows and a bulk salter that pays for themselves. I say pays because the extra jobs we can get done is more than the annual payments of the equipment. And the bulk salter allows us to pay $120 a ton in bulk vs 400 a ton for salt in bags. 20 salts and we pay for the spreader. All businesses are basically the same when it comes down to it.
