I try and go through the pending delete list everyday to make a list of names that I like. Sometimes I backorder them, other times I try and hand catch them when they drop. Sometimes I don’t pick up any right away, I’ll go back through the last week or so of picks and see what’s left.
Today I searched through the last 7 days of names that I highlighted and picked 36 of them to register. I usually check the domains through at least 2 bulk checkers because there is no registrar that works 100% all of the time. What I found today is a great example why.
First I ran the whole list of names through Namebright and picked the ones that I wanted to register. I like using namebright because I can select the names, and easily copy the whole list. I do this even if I’m going to register them somewhere else, but I often use namebright because they are the cheapest register around if you pre-fund your account.
I then ran the whole list though godaddy and noted that significantly less names were showing as available. Then I copied the specific names from namebright that I wanted to register and pasted them into the Godaddy checker. Only half of the names were showing available at Godaddy. I tried several times with the same results.
I registered the names through namebright, thinking that maybe they were the ones showing a false positive. All the names were registered successfully and added to my account.
So bottomline, check different registrars to see if a name is available and harrass Godaddy till they fix their shit.
