I sold a name yesterday through Godaddy buy services. The initial offer was 5K, we countered at 10K and settled at $7500. While I prefer BIN to avoid lengthy and tedious negotiations, this one was paid for and transferred by the afternoon. I’m not sure why I didn’t have it listed with a buy it now, but it worked out.

The best part, in my mind anyway, is that I hand regged the name by spinning word combinations.

This method seems to be my go to lately. I recently submitted a bunch of names to Brandbucket. Most of the names with the highest assigned prices are names that I hand registered and they’re in the 10K-20K range. Other names that I paid $69-$300 are listed anywhere from 2-5K.

I don’t think it’s a technique that everyone should try right away, but it stands to reason that a domainer that has enough skill to pick names from a drop list can pick them out of a group of non registered names.

Just for fun, look at the sales list that Travis posts everyday, pick a few names that went for a few hundred bucks, and see if you can come up with something just as good in the same niche.

No matter how you acquire these things, the basics are the same. Is there a chance that some company will use the name as their brand? Every retail sale is dependent on timing. Most sales are marketed in some way, the average retail buyer has no idea how it even works, let alone what they want.

When you put all of these things together, a solid brand will retail faster registered and marketed than it would unregistered and available to the world at reg fee.

I also sold another BB name this week.
