Domain Spotlight:

I usually get a few spam outbound marketing emails a week. Half of them are for names that they don’t own and are currently in an auction. Some are just crap names that the seller is trying to offload.

But the craziest spam outbound marketing email I got this week was for some BS .us domain. I can’t remember the keyword, but there wasn’t anything remarkable about it. I like .us, conceptually anyway, and I’ve sold a ton of them, because I bought them for 10 cents each. I did not sell the vast majority of them.

I can’t imagine what is going through someone’s head when they reach the determination that marketing random ass .us domains is a good use of their time. Even if you’re in to the scammy side of domaining there’s a lot of better options out there.

I assume they’re using some of estibot’s tools or maybe their own scraping tool, but this still takes time. Maybe they have a VA and assign them this crap because they can’t think of anything else for them to do? Either way they’re not even targeting the right people, the majority of their emails are going to domainers that don’t want this crap.

The reality is there are thousands of ways to make money with domains, without doing crazy shit. Maybe spam outbound does work at some level, I don’t know for sure, I do know that it would work a lot better selling names you own or have a right to sell, or names that don’t suck.

    1. Definitely trouble on the GD side. They have been having this problem off and on for months. It feels like a cookie issue. If I use the same links on a browser I rarely use to access GoDaddy, the link works fine.
