Domain Spotlight:

I sold a few token names this week, I think there some of the names that I spun a year ago but I can’t remember. The first one was just under 3k, this is the name that I passed over for renewal a few days before it sold at Sedo. It was expired and close to being sucked up by the Godaddy auction machine.

This is a good example of the carpet bombing domain strategy. There’s nothing really special about this name, but for under $15 and surrounded by a bunch of similar names one or more of them have a chance of selling for $2-$5K . I don’t recommend this strategy unless you can afford to lose all the money you invest. I don’t even like to use the word “invest” with these names. I’m not investing, I’m acquiring inventory as a domain seller, not an investor. Most of these names are like pumpkins after Halloween. The store sold a few pumpkins for 500X’s the wholesale price of the one pumpkin, averaged out over all the wholesale pumpkins. The ones that didn’t sell were taken out back and smashed. Any of those pumpkins could have sold, but they didn’t, there was only so many pumpkin buyers. There was nothing wrong with the rest of them, but they’re time was up.

Anyway the second domain sale was for $2950 through Afternic, fits into the same category as the above, though you could make the case that it’s more action oriented specific and not just a random add on word attached to token.
