The other day I talked about the car trade/buy I did but I didn’t talk about the car itself much. I would have rather found something capable of pulling my catfishing boat, but I figured I can always look at that in the future, and I need something to drive the 120 miles to work. The car is a BMW 335 diesel, and it’s the fastest car I’ve ever owned.
That’s not really saying much, since I haven’t owned that many cars in my life, but it’s seriously scary fast, and I drive fast for a living. I need to start using the cruise control or do something to remind me to stay at a reasonable speed. The other morning driving to work I made a left turn to get on the ramp to access the highway. Normally I would gradually build speed going up the ramp and hopefully have enough to smoothly merge into traffic. In this car I was at 80MPH 1/4 of the way up the ramp and it’s still getting a 34MPG average.
The handling is also impressive: I drove a new Chevy Tahoe when I got to work, and as I was going around a curve I thought, “what the hell is wrong with this thing, if feels like it can’t handle this little turn”, then I realized that I was probably going to adjust my driving style. There was no discernible difference between the handling of my old SUV and the vehicles at work, so It was never an issue.
Hopefully I won’t do anything stupid in the car, maybe I’ll buy a governor to regulate the speed.
