Domain Spotlight:

I had a buyer contact through LinkedIn the other day. They were trying to buy a name, they were trying to track down the owner of a name on SEDO that I no longer owned.

I was confused as to how they had my name, but didn’t have my email address. They told me that SEDO gave them my name and street address, but not my email.

My first thought was great, they can’t send me a message but they can come to my house and kill me, lol. I’d rather them give my email, as I can’t think of any real point to my physical address being given out.

I’m not sure how long it’s been since I owned the name, I don’t sell many names on SEDO and never have. I need to update all the listings, but in the past I’ve had trouble making bulk changes. So despite having intentions of updating SEDO and generally ignore it.

  1. Had the opposite a little while back. Someone clicking to buy a name of mine and didn’t pay. A month or two later sedo offered to give me their name and address. So I could chase them for $800? lol

  2. Yea, they give the info out so that one party can sue the other for not holding up their half of the bargain. In Tim’s case, the buyer agreed to pay and then didn’t. In Josh’s case, Josh agreed to sell the name at a BIN price and then didn’t deliver the name after the buyer probably paid. I doubt many of these things are pursued and very few are successful if pursued. Josh’s scenario happened to me as well earlier this year so I took the time to go through and remove some names that I no longer owned, but I don’t own 20k+ names so it was pretty easy…
