I was reading Raymond’s post on TheDomains the other day about non-paying Godaddy auctions going to DropCatch.
It’s interesting to see the price changes or similarities from one platform to the other. I also think Raymond should use “dropped” instead of “expired” to describe them, as the reason they went to auction at Godaddy was their expiration and the reason DropCatch was able to pick them up and sell them was due to them dropping, 🙂 but that’s just because I’m a nerd and I think the distinction is key for our industry to not confuse itself.
For non payment of the auction to force the name in to redemption seems a bit strange, since you would think Godaddy would have some sort of back up solution, maybe runner up or a quick re-auction, though I assume these are all names that come from third party registrars and not directly from Godaddy.
The other thing you could do that would potentially give the money to DropCatch instead of Godaddy would be to force the deletion before Godaddy takes control of the name due to a bid. I’m not sure if you’d have to do this while it’s still non expired or if it’s possible in auto renew grace before it gets a bid.
Essentially you would be manually putting the domain in Redemption bypassing the auction process, after which it would enter the 5 day pending delete and then become available for Drop Catchers around 14:00-1500 Eastern time the following day.
In non domain news I hate ticks. I hiked through a field yesterday to fish. The farmer apparently abandoned the idea of harvesting any hay, since the grass is over my head and drying out. Not hard for it to be over my head… but I found several ticks on me. When I got home I showered for an hour but now I still feel like there are ticks crawling over my skin.
