Klimt.com: Great Name But Does It Really Need a Press Release

I always scan the PR wire for new information regarding tech or domains and stumbled across a quite unusual press release for the name Klimt.com. A nice name that certainly gets lots of searches for painter Gustaf Klimt. But a press release? I agree that this certainly may attract extra attention to the name but I certainly don’t think it’s near the top domain in the auction. I can think of 10 names or more that trump this and none of them needed a press release. Maybe it’s the crazy reserve price of 250-500K that forced them to try the old fashioned press methods.  Rule #8 Issue a press release.   Here it is.

VIENNA, Austria, January 25 /PRNewswire/ — The Live Auction on January 28th, 2010 from 2 pm until 6 pm (UTC minus 8 hours) is during the DOMAINfest Global conference in Santa Monica, California.

Gustav Klimt is one of the most famous artist worldwide. His painting “Adele” was sold for USD 135 million to Ronald Lauder and recently the J. Paul Getty museum acquired two highly accomplished drawings by Klimt. Last September the Times asked its readers to rank the top 200 artists of the 20th century. The top three results of the poll, which raked in a total of 1.4 million votes, are, in order, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne and Gustav Klimt.

KLIMT.com is the top level art domain – a premium piece of internet real estate. Available for an audience filled with domain name investors / owners and online marketing professionals during the Live Auction. If you can’t attend the Moniker Live Auction, you can still watch and bid in real-time by downloading free software provided by Moniker’s sister company, SnapNames.

DOMAINfest Global welcomes everyone involved directly or indirectly with the domain name industry. Many great minds will be attending to share insights and identify emerging trends. It’s the best place to connect and meet with the people and companies who keep this industry moving forward.

I wish the best for the name but I will guarantee in this post that the name will not sell at that price.  I’ll be issuing a press release about it later today
