Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday, September 11th, 2023

Are you old enough to remember this? I would open a can of Coke, take this off, throw it right into the can, and drink it. Almost everyone did it because you didn’t want to litter and throw the “pull top” onto the ground. So we risked choking on this thing and putting whatever nastiness got on it from sitting on the shelves, into our drink. Good times

As bad as that sounds, the pull top was revolutionary. Because before them you had to use a can opener to open your pop and beer. They called them flat tops. Before that, cans had a cork and were called cone tops. Not the easiest to store and ship. I know all about this because I collect beer cans. I could always tell the age of the can by the top. I’ve had my collection for over 40 years and I keep them because to me it’s art. Marketing has been around since the beginning of time and beer cans were a canvas that let marketers use different concepts to attract drinkers. People think with IPAs we’re at peak artwork and that may be true but anyone can slap a label on now. Back in the day, you had to make a commitment to printing on the cans. Also in the late 70s, early 80s, beer can collecting was a big thing so brewers put out a ton of different cans to appease the collectors as much as the drinkers. Leading to a series of cans and great art. One day I’ll post some pictures of my collection
