One thing that keeps coming up: people get stuck on what domain to launch with. There are a lot of variables, but the biggest one is — does the name give people a feel for what the product is? It doesn’t have to be an exact match, but it should hint at the category or tell you something about the company.
A few other things that always come into play:
- What kind of capital do they have?
- Are they raising money now or soon?
- Will the domain impact the raise?
- What are their options?
- Are there trademarks on the name?
- Is it smarter to save money now and risk paying more later?
The answer to “what domain should we use?” always depends on how you answer those.
But these folks are doing the most important thing right — starting with the domain, Domain first branding. That saves you from naming the company first and then getting stuck having to buy the perfect match later, which usually means overpaying.
Quote of the Day: “We can choose wisely now or pay an unwise amount later” -Shane Cultra

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
