Spent the long weekend with friends running a few national parks. We have always wanted to run the Grand Canyone South Rim to North Rim, but we had to wait until everyone in the group was in shape to do it, and then the big fire came and closed the park. It finally opened, and we gave it a try. One of the most beautiful runs in my life. Not easy. The back half is in the sun, 95 degrees, and essentially straight up for the last 3 miles. I melted like a popsicle. Flew the first 18 miles and crawled the last 3. Did it with my best friends of 20 years. My wife took advantage of my time away and went to the Indianapolis 500 with her friends.
Spending time with friends, doing fun and hard things, is in my opinion, one of the keys to life. It actually improves your work by resetting your brain and injecting happiness. I love what I do but to be who I am I also have to get outside that realm. Sean and I still had Winterline business but we took the meetings when I could make time. A job with a paycheck doesn’t have that flexibility and you are either working or not working because they want you to decide whether you are getting paid or not. In domains we get paid on success and there are no set work hours. You merely need to get it done. Allowing you to live a good life and still put in the work required to run a good business.
