I know a few of your probably have this on your cars. When you come to a light or are idle in your car it turns off. I absolutely hate it. Some cars are better than others in the way they shut off and on but there are none worse than the Subaru. The point of shutting off is to save gas and reduce emissions. I get it. Its a really nice thought. I work from home instead of driving to work so I feel like I’ve done my duty. Then I get in my Subaru and it is constantly turning off. Some times I notice, some times I don’t. But I always notice when I take off. It lags horribly. I’m sitting and waiting for a long left turn and try and make a quick dart across only to find out my car is off and it lags. Putting me in a little more harm’s way than I already gave myself with the daring move.
“Turn it off’. I do but of course I never remember until it happens. My Bronco is much better and smoother. It always feels a little odd in complete silence at stoplights but the off on is very quiet and almost no lag on the takeoff. To the point, I’ve never turned it off. Also, at 17 MPG I probably do need to save a little gas if possible.
The most common question is “doesn’t that hurt your starter or battery?” They will tell you that the cars have heavy duty starters to offset the over use but it absolutely beats on the starter and if you have a low battery, beats on that too. So yes, they are built for that but if you turn it off your starter and your battery will last longer. You’re just trading that for all that C02 you’re putting in the air which I’m cool with because I grow trees to scrub it for you

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.* All names chosen by us. (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.

Thank God someone has written about these horrendous switches. And even though I’m the least mechanical person on earth, simple common sense tells [anyone] that these pathetic shut-off mechanisms will degrade the starter and battery. Thanks for mentioning this, Shane!
Dude I thought you work at a nursery?
I still own a nursery but retired 2 years ago from daily operations. Visit every few days as I live down the street. What makes you think I don’t/didn’t
