I can’t believe March is almost over. I like to spend a month at different locations around the U.S. to mix up the routine. When you don’t have a “job-job,” and since I’ve lived in the same house for 25 years, it’s nice to see different places. As I’ve talked about before, the key is bringing the dog. He’s part of the family, and there’s no way I could leave him for a month. He’s at my feet 20 hours a day.
We had been going to Leadville for three months a year, and we’ll continue to go, but the reality is the elevation—11,000 feet—is just too high. It doesn’t bother me, but our guests are always sick for the first three days, and even our dog gets stomach aches from the altitude. Add in the fact that I like to run, and it’s pretty brutal. Of course, that’s what I love about it and why I’ll keep going, but I’ve decided not to buy a house there (unless I get some kind of windfall) and instead to buy a house at a more reasonable altitude—maybe even a little closer drive.
The key is: I need a view. All I really want at this point is to have a cup of coffee with a breathtaking view, get in a run, and then work hard all day.
Those are my goals—nothing more complex than that. Where that is, I’m not sure yet. I’m taking a month at a time in various locations to figure it out.
