Domain Spotlight:

Is it Just Me or……

Am I the only one that uses that finds their only use for their home phone is to call to find their cell phone

do you also feel that the quality of names sold on forums has dropped to an all time low

do you see a company’s web address on the side of their truck and either say “great domain” or “why did you pick X when you could have gotten Y”

do you let people who don’t know what you do,  tell you all about domains and the Internet while you just sit there and listen just to hear if they really know anything at all (I did that with the yellow pages salesman)

am I the only one that feels its useless to make the bed because nobody is coming over and I am going to get right back in at the end of the day  (my wife makes it anyway)

am I the only one with  a unique ability to remember the smallest of details from something that happened 20 years ago but can’t figure out where I put my phone 5 minutes ago

did you also come to the realization that there are 4 million better ways to relax or spend your free time than golf (I love the game but 5 hours for 18 holes?)

do you feel great when someone you work thinks they can do a better job than you at a particular task and soon realize they can’t

Is it just me or do you look at 90% of other people’s portfolios and wonder why in the Hell they bought or even renew most of the names.

am I the only one that comes home from drinking and woke up with a few extra bids on domains I don’t remember

Is it just me or do you also bid higher than you wanted on a domain just because you’re bound and determined not to have the other person win it.

Yeah, I know it’s just me

  1. I always thought golf should be 14 holes. I’m usually hot and tired by then.

I do think that almost everyone else in the domain biz buys trash domains.

In 16 years of buying domains I have never bought a domain from another domainer…..that is a rule I plan to keep.

I do think the quality of domains on the drops is higher than 2006 – mid 2009. Since mid 2009 there have been gems dropping left and right.

Nope, not just you…I am right there with you…specially the last part!

  3. Shane,

    Now that’s funny

“Am I the only one that uses that finds their only use for their home phone is to call to find their cell phone”

I had this epiphany a few years ago – haven’t had a home phone in years, still surprised how many people do

    good stuff

  4. I can relate to many of your points 🙂 While I find that generally most domainers have unrealistic bid/asking prices for domains (which makes acquisition & sale to other domainers difficult), I have picked up a few good ones on forums. Interestingly domainers will bid much higher for a domain listed at Snapnames/Namejet than they would offer were it listed at BIDO/SEDO/Afternic/Godaddy

I disagree with SEDO/Afternic/Godaddy. Bidders go apenuts on those platforms as well.

I’d rank them like this: Namejet/Godaddy/Sedo/Snapnames/AfterNIC

    Highest to lowest.

I’m living in Europe right now, but my Magic Jack gives me a US phone number, where I can call from my computer to any phone in the US. REALLY cool being able to keep in touch with Luddite friends and family. Of course, Skype is always good for computer to computer.

But the durn thing (MJ) is on a cord (Gah!), so I don’t how much I’ll use it when I return home. In the meantime, I can’t lose my phone. However, my mobile is a different story…
