Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.
Flips
LAGR.com sold recently for 1,850 USD at Flippa, vs 1,152 USD on 2015-08-26 at Sedo. This transaction didn’t make the seller rich, but a 35% gain after commissions in a few months is great for any type of investment. The question is whether or not the seller can repeat it.
33512.com sold recently for 3,251 USD at 4.CN, vs 107 USD on 2014-01-02 at GoDaddy. 25x after commission (assuming 15%) in under two years…..not too shabby!
5034.com sold recently for 9,500 USD at BuyDomains, vs 2,999 USD on 2013-05-20 at Afternic.
DNG.net sold recently for 3,600 USD at GoDaddy, vs 610 USD on 2010-12-02 at NameJet.
JPHL.com sold recently for 3,100 USD at NameJet, vs 459 USD on 2015-08-11 at NameJet. 6x before commission in 4 1/2 months, on the same platform.
CBYQ.com sold recently for 2,087 USD at 4.CN, vs 1,056 USD on 2015-10-23 at 4.CN. Nearly a double before commission in two months, on the same platform.
Flops
HalogenHeaters.com sold recently for 560 USD at GoDaddy, vs 730 USD on 2013-12-24 at GoDaddy. Those product domains aren’t what they used to be in the minisite days, even with the 8,000 searches per month, per Estibot.
Commission.net sold recently for 2,905 USD at GoDaddy, vs 8,000 USD on 2012-01-01 at Afternic. We’ve said it many times….the .net domains are struggling, even the one worders.
PartyHall.com sold recently for 690 USD at NameJet, vs 2,155 USD on 2009-09-13 at GoDaddy.
YJAB.com sold recently for 340 USD at Flippa, vs 560 USD on 2015-11-16 at NameJet. The weekly reminder that even for the hot domain categories, you still need to buy at the right price. This is a quick flip gone awry in less than a two month hold.
ServiceDepot.com sold recently for 3,026 USD at GoDaddy, vs 6,800 USD on 2013-10-20 at Afternic. The seller started to give it a go as a B2B company, with a screenshot below courtesy of Archive.org, but things clearly didn’t work out.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
