One thing I didn’t mention is I believe that DSAD has now completed 3 years without missing a Daily List. That’s over 1000 consecutive domain lists. It actually could be longer but I know that since Josh, Travis and I have been together we have never missed a day. I know I had missed less than ten days in the 5 years before that. So missing 10 days in 2800 is a pretty strong percentage as well. So regardless of what someone thinks about quality the quality of our lists and posts they have to give us some award regarding consistency.
I hadn’t had a chance to talk much about the live NamesCon auction but now that I’m home I can put a little more thought in to it. I think it went very very well. JT and Monte did a good job. My concern about high reserve names taking too long was unwarranted. Some big names did sell and the overall totals were exactly what a person putting on an auction wanted. For the most part the Namejet platform held strong without a bug which was good because I would say half of the live attendees were actually bidding online instead of with their paddles. But there were a few opportunities to improve the auction.
- Sending out the list of the names chosen for the live auction just a few hour ahead of time was a bit ridiculous IMO. Plenty of time to get that together and get it out several days ahead
- If you are going to lower a reserve on a name during an auction. Announce it. Names like OL and Stop.com sold below auction reserve and nobody in the audience knew the reserve had been lowered.
- The auction was geared for the big money players. The only lower value names were junk new Gs. I think they could have put in a few dozen names that would have allowed some mid four figure and lower five figure people to play along
And finally. I didn’t pay for NamesCon so I have no complaints. I had a great time this year. There was only one NamesCon sponsored after hours event with no other sponsored social this year. I could be wrong but pretty sure almost all sessions were volunteers and no money went towards speakers. For me personally, it was a fantastic event but I had lots of outside entertainment and meals that I paid for a business partner was nice enough to pick up the check. The most important part of any conference is that everyone has a great time. And at $199 for tickets you absolutely can’t offer more than NamesCon did. I’m merely saying that if the tickets are going to be higher in the future there will have to be additions to the conference to justify it and vice versa. But again, overall, great time and glad to be home after being away for so long. Here are today’s names.
