Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday August 5th, 2019

Escrow.com

One thing I’ve been taught since I’ve been business is not to look at sales, not to look at top line profit, but to look at net profit after all things are paid for. On an income statement profit falls to the bottom but profit has to be used to pay for a lot of things that don’t fall under cost of goods sold or expenses. You have to go to the balance sheet to see how many loans are out, how much inventory is sitting there, etc. Profit still has to pay for stuff.

So when I hear the sales from Mike Mann, the people saying that DropCatch is killing it I take it with a grain of salt. I don’t think Mike Mann has any free cash. I have no proof but I think his money is tied up in assets and his cash flow barely covers bills. Again, no proof. Because I don’t EVER see him mention purchases. Everything he sells was registered years ago.

Dropcatch is certainly catching and selling a ton of names but their ICANN fees are most likely in the neighborhood of $2 million a year . Add in staff and all the other costs and you have to do a lot of sales to break even. Not saying they aren’t killing it. Just saying that their are a lot of behind the scene costs that don’t get talked about.

And you know why? No domain investor likes to talk about losing money. Not a ton of articles about domains sitting in the portfolio that gather dust, renewal fees, and acquisition costs that are generating no returns. Its more interesting to give sales and acquisitions, not profit per year. Some of that being that there probably wasn’t much profit. Of course people don’t like to give out financials because its personal so I get that, just making the point that there is more to the story. Not all bad, just more

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.

  1. Only an accountant understand what you said in the first paragraph. Rest of them are hard hitting truth. All for that one sale that will change the fortune and pay for all the troubles went through.

  2. You’re spot on Shane. All those “I sold CoinMena .com for 25K” and “I sold Joy .tv for 20K” messages on NamePros, Twitter, etc. don’t mention how many other MENA and .TV names collect dust in their portfolios and how much they lost on names that didn’t sell.
