Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with recent data courtesy of DN Journal and historical data from NameBio.
Flips
- InsuranceReview.com – Sold recently for $9,888 at Sedo, vs $4,500 in May of this year at NameJet. A double in half a year is pretty nice. Based on the screenshot below, it looks like it wants to be a lead gen site. “InsuranceReview.com was created as a tool for insurance agents looking to gain customer feedback. Instead of hunting down customer reviews from across the web, agents can easily collect and display their reviews in one place.” The current owner is Nicholas Braun of Columbus, Ohio.
- BMH.com – Sold recently for $32,488 at Sedo, vs $27,200 at Sedo earlier this year. Also sold for $10,500 last year at Afternic. The most recent sale is an extremely thin flip after factoring in commissions….only a few hundred dollar profit if the commissions were 15%. Appears to have been recently picked up by a Chinese investor, and the domain is currently parked.
Flops
- PrescriptionSunglasses.com – Sold recently for $7,580 at NameJet, vs $10,099 in 2011 at Sedo. Domain is parked, and Whois lists the current owner as MAHENDER RAO of Irving, Texas.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
