Domain Flips (DDPR.com, A84.com) and Flops (HillaryClinton.net, HomelessMan.com)

Nov 20 2016

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips

DXYZ.com sold for 1,945 USD recently at NameJet, vs  1,400 USD on 2015-10-21 at Flippa. This wasn’t a home run, but an 18% return after commission in a year is great in most investment circles.

DDPR.com sold for 1,728 USD recently at NameJet, vs 291 USD on 2008-09-05 at NameJet. This one was a 400% return over an eight year hold.

62936.com sold for 2,301 USD recently at NameJet, vs 151 USD on 2014-08-31 at GoDaddy. Both those LLLL.com returns above pale in comparison to what has happened with some of the numerics…..this one was a nearly 1200% return in a roughly two year timeframe.

A84.com sold for 1,620 USD recently at NameJet, vs 550 USD on 2015-01-04 at Flippa. This was my name, which I mentioned I bought previously. I had the name up for auction at NameJet last year with a $1,500 reserve, and bidding only got up to $1,300. This time I had a $1,250 reserve, and bidding got up to the final price of $1,620.

Flops

HomelessMan.com sold for 324 USD recently at DropCatch, vs 12,000 USD on 2014-09-03 at Private. This domain used to forward to the hyphenated Homeless-Man.com, which was an off-color comic strip. “The comic book tells the story of a homeless man, Jay Ess, that acquires super powers one night while sleeping in a dumpster.”

Nano.tv sold for 303 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 5,680 USD on 2015-10-19 at Sedo. It appears this domain was previously forwarded to NanoKids.tv, but that site doesn’t have anything in its history at Archive.org.

Washington.biz sold for 1,276 USD recently at Sedo, vs 2,550 USD on 2011-08-09 at Sedo.

HillaryClinton.net sold for 500 USD recently at Flippa, vs 1,001 USD on 2016-09-15 at Flippa. This domain flop aligns with Hillary’s election performance.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
