Before jumping into the post, a quick thanks to Michael Cyger for organizing an excellent DN Seattle meet-up at GoDaddy’s offices in Kirkland last Thursday. The event was well organized and attended, with good educational content, and a great group of individuals to spend the evening with. Flips
Eternally.com sold for 4,301 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,500 USD on 2015-10-16 at NameJet. Nearly a 50% gain in about 7 months.
YouLikeThis.com sold for 4,500 USD recently at Flippa, vs 196 USD on 2015-05-20 at GoDaddy. Excellent return if it closes; around 18x after commissions in only a year.
InfoVegas.com sold for 4,319 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 120 USD on 2015-05-09 at GoDaddy. This one is closer to 30x after commission.
David.info sold for 2,699 USD recently at NameJet, vs 676 USD on 2011-12-09 at NameJet.
6y5.com sold for 1,700 USD recently at NameJet, vs 513 USD on 2014-09-06 at NameJet.
MBXA.com sold for 1,025 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 125 USD on 2015-05-09 at GoDaddy.
NFR.com sold for 33,600 USD recently at NameJet, vs 12,322 USD on 2009-05-07 at NameJet. This is less than the seller would have received if they sold 5 months ago, but still an excellent return.
Flops
LoveHub.com sold for 1,330 USD recently at NameJet, vs 14,985 USD on 2015-02-08 at DomainNameSales. You don’t buy from Frank Schilling expecing to flip the domain for a profit…..presumably they had a business plan in mind when they bought the name, but no site ever made it live, according to Archive.org.
CIE.com sold for 39,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 51,000 USD on 2015-12-16 at NameJet. Ouch, a loss of nearly $20k after commission in 6 months.
Wet.net sold for 7,000 USD recently at Flippa, vs 7,012 USD on 2009-08-26 at GoDaddy. A break-even until you factor in commissions.
Movie.io sold for 3,850 USD recently at Flippa, vs 6,500 USD on 2015-04-04 at Flippa.
Relax.net sold for 3,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 4,555 USD on 2007-01-15 at Sedo.
Avoidance.com sold for 1,501 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,489 USD on 2015-07-03 at Sedo.
DomainNamePortfolio.com sold for 1,032 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 7,100 USD on 2015-05-08 at GoDaddy. Flops like this will make a domain investor go out of business quickly.
Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
