Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday August 3rd , 2018

Domains don’t matter.  That’s what Godaddy proved yesterday in their earnings.  With domain related earnings of $304 million and hosting revenue of $244 million, Godaddy’s hosting platform is actually much more valuable than the domains side.  Valuable because the margins on hosting are 10 fold that of domains (I made up that number but you get the point).  I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find it but I would be curious to see what the makeup of the revenue in domains is expired auction and which is registration and renewals.  Obviously the margins on the expired are fantastic and the margins on the renewals are almost nothing.  Getting back to my point.  Godaddy missed the expected growth in hosting and despite beating the expected revenues handily, the market didn’t like the growth of the high margin stuff and knocked the stock back 5% in the after market.  I see it as a buying opportunity but don’t listen to me.  I shorted Tesla and it went up a million points.  It actually went up so much that Interactive Brokers said that if anyone wants to short more Tesla you have to put another 5% down in margin.  I was long out of my positions.  I had seen enough at open and took my ball and went home.  I’ll probably put my leftover money in Godaddy or Garmin tomorrow.

PS.  I don’t have any bidding stories because I have literally not bid or bought anything.  Just saving my money waiting. Believe it or not you don’t have to buy something every day or every week.  It just took me 10 years to figure that out. Here are today’s names. Click through to see the current price

Quote of the Day:  “Have I not destroyed my enemy when I have made him into my friend?” – Abraham Lincoln

Domain of the Day:     So many uses.  I think of the APIs as in application programming interface.   Big name

Namejet and Sedo Names at Auction   A lot of uses here.  Flooring, construction, baseball  Closing today on the first offer   I’m sure there are people that do this.  Under $200 is a great buy if you can sell it to them   Not a great name but from 1992  I like modern names but haven’t had much luck selling them  Great name for SAT or ACT prep course sales.  Only 2 bidders  I love X at the beginning.  Everyone knows its pronounced Zave   Tofu and armpit hair   Cooking college style.  no bidders

Godaddy Domains That I Like With Multiple Bids    Getting big bids because of the existing company and the various other companies that could upgrade to the name  Some people really are.  I miss Farah Fawcett.  1998 birthday   If its not a phonebook or computer case name yet it will be soon   a penis term  Some are going to say this is pronounceable   A town in Australia is the driver here.  Has 353 people.  OK maybe not the driver   There’s a lot of money in raising money   Only corn is a bigger crop.  Even dot net is worth a bunch IMO   These kind of names always surprise me when it comes to sales price. North seems to be the favorite of the directional words for brands   Look at the name and guess what you think its going for.  Bet you aren’t even close  On the opposite side.  I thought this one would be much higher   Four sevens.  Four in a row on a 6N is now good for four figures    Name makes no sense to me but it has crypto in it and that is enough for bids   The next big carrier?   somebody is being creative.  Godaddy likes it.  Me?  Meh All I think of is task rabbit

Godaddy Names With One or NO Bids  Sounds like an official rag.  At $17   This is a pretty sweet name for $17 Not bad for $12  Godaddy thinks this is worth $3K. No bids  I went over the list 3 times and each time I said I liked it but didn’t put it down.  Last run I’m putting it here  We all are at some point.  No bids

  1. tsla reminds of blackberry before 2008-09 crash. Lost my butt shorting that turd. Hype was there but cash flow wasn’t, even the president had an ubiquitous blackberry. Maybe its different this time but probably not.
