Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday March 1st, 2019

Travis and I were on the hunt at the Sedo Great Domain auction for a name to add to our portfolio.   Last time a few good LLL.coms at the Sedo GD auction went for a really good price and we’ve been kicking ourselves ever since.  Generally because they all end at the exact same time and it doesn’t give you a chance to get your second choice if you miss one and can’t afford two. There are quite a few things at Sedo that are simple fixes that would greatly improve the experience but that’s for another article.  The 4 names we had it down to were TBN,JOQ,KAA,and NIQ.  All dot com of course. We really liked JOQ but the reserve range was so wide it was hard to tell what they were looking for and because we can only choose one (that end at the same time thing) it made it difficult.  So we simply put in what we were willing to pay that was in range and saw if it met reserve. It didn’t so we moved on to other names.  When we looked at KAA there were a lot of trademarks.  And they were trademarks that were very wide and didn’t leave open many industries that could buy it.  The snake in Jungle Book is named KAA and Disney trademarked it under pretty much anything media related. Television, movies, toys.  There was also a tech company patent and it looked fairly wide as well.  We thought we could get around it though so it was in the mix but with hesitation.

We also loved   Short, could be a name. Definitely could be a brand.  IQ and in smart or artificial intelligence.  Nobody really seemed to see the IQ part.  But people aren’t big fans of Q in general.  And it was fairly cheap.  Under $20K for a pronounceable is something you always have to look at.  Then there was  Great letters for an acronym.  Big potential buyers, especially the Trinity Broadcast Network that operates on the .org and owns the TBN twitter.  A lot of other potentials as well.  $30K was not a problem for name like that.  Just have to make sure that Trinity or Turner don’t try and take it.  But a great name and worth the $30K

So which one did we buy?  Once its in the account we’ll say. Just wanted to do what we always do around here.  Give you a little idea of what is going through our head when we buy or sell names.  We would have been happy with any of them and I think like all good domains, we’ll look back and think all of these prices were steals.  Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD continue writing each day.

Quote of the Day: I’m glad I didn’t have to fight in any war. I’m glad I didn’t have to pick up a gun. I’m glad I didn’t get killed or kill somebody. I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood.” — Tom Hanks

Domain of the Day:   Crazy amount and random things named this.  From music to campers

Namejet, Sedo, and other Names Up for Auction    Reminds me of a pet frog too  A lot of big companies offer this   One of the better .io that Mike’s caught  Good brand.  I think of the 7 summits when I see this. One bidder  I don’t think anyone is going to pick up on this but it was one of the fake companies in Payday.  What is payday?  Nevermind Not the coolest tattoo name out there but you know what you’re getting.  But definitely not as good as No Regrets or Shit That Hurts Tattoos  Body shamer

Godaddy Domains With Multiple Bids  I wish I would have purchased a lot more 123 names.  They get such a higher multiple than average  A 5L but also a family name  Every time BTC prices rises the sales of these things picks up   comes from De Sena which meant in Italian and Spanish you were from Siena which used to be called Sena.  So a last name  If you take a percentage of dot come then these should be rising right along    Really nice name for a company that measures this and helps improve it. A bit long but perfect description  My personal favorite.  Obvious use in so many sports  Normally I would say too generic but this is a big category.  From training apparel to funny shirts like “if I die, please stop my Garmin”  22 years old.  Creativity usually trumps education when it come to marketing   Geo legal names still sell all the time  Upgrade name for dozens of companies that share the name  I think solar will be big enough that it would be smart to hold a small part of your portfolio in solar names  I think this will be a person that creates your future versus a creator that will be one in the future  Not sure you’re going to get by the UFC with this one.  Otherwise…nice  Godaddy likes it but I’m going to leave it to some bunny else

Godaddy Domains With One or No Bids Collaboration software or site all the way.  No bids  Sounds voracious but also nice  Big market in the LED grow light business right now with canna Probiotics on steroids.  Or maybe just steroids  Home sales marketing company All chain names are blockchain names now. Even bike chain  Botany names have been doing well in the canna space.  I don’t know about actual sales but I see quite a few companies with forms of it in their names Tech Crunch starts a shark tank

Digital361 .com  “We take 4 days off”

  1. Cool…I think all the 3 letter names were good prices so you guys did fine. I liked Kaa best but didn’t know about TMs.

  2. I think I know which one you guys niqed… In any case, I agree that you got a good deal.

  3. The more i think about niq, the more i like it. Aside from the iq angle, it reads like “Nick” You’ll never ever get, so this is the next best thing. It fails the radio test but a simple “visit N. I. Q. .com” in the copy would resolve that.
