Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday March 1st, 2019

Escrow.com

Travis and I were on the hunt at the Sedo Great Domain auction for a name to add to our portfolio.   Last time a few good LLL.coms at the Sedo GD auction went for a really good price and we’ve been kicking ourselves ever since.  Generally because they all end at the exact same time and it doesn’t give you a chance to get your second choice if you miss one and can’t afford two. There are quite a few things at Sedo that are simple fixes that would greatly improve the experience but that’s for another article.  The 4 names we had it down to were TBN,JOQ,KAA,and NIQ.  All dot com of course. We really liked JOQ but the reserve range was so wide it was hard to tell what they were looking for and because we can only choose one (that end at the same time thing) it made it difficult.  So we simply put in what we were willing to pay that was in range and saw if it met reserve. It didn’t so we moved on to other names.  When we looked at KAA there were a lot of trademarks.  And they were trademarks that were very wide and didn’t leave open many industries that could buy it.  The snake in Jungle Book is named KAA and Disney trademarked it under pretty much anything media related. Television, movies, toys.  There was also a tech company patent and it looked fairly wide as well.  We thought we could get around it though so it was in the mix but with hesitation.

We also loved NIQ.com   Short, could be a name. Definitely could be a brand.  IQ and in smart or artificial intelligence.  Nobody really seemed to see the IQ part.  But people aren’t big fans of Q in general.  And it was fairly cheap.  Under $20K for a pronounceable LLL.com is something you always have to look at.  Then there was TBN.com  Great letters for an acronym.  Big potential buyers, especially the Trinity Broadcast Network that operates on the .org and owns the TBN twitter.  A lot of other potentials as well.  $30K was not a problem for name like that.  Just have to make sure that Trinity or Turner don’t try and take it.  But a great name and worth the $30K

So which one did we buy?  Once its in the account we’ll say. Just wanted to do what we always do around here.  Give you a little idea of what is going through our head when we buy or sell names.  We would have been happy with any of them and I think like all good domains, we’ll look back and think all of these prices were steals.  Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD continue writing each day.

Quote of the Day: I’m glad I didn’t have to fight in any war. I’m glad I didn’t have to pick up a gun. I’m glad I didn’t get killed or kill somebody. I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood.” — Tom Hanks

If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details.*All names chosen by us, Shane and Josh . (ie you click through and purchase a name you like) or an occasional paid listing. Everything we say is based on our own research or is opinion. Do your own due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, individuals that are auctioning names, and Godaddy affiliate links. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.

  1. Cool…I think all the 3 letter names were good prices so you guys did fine. I liked Kaa best but didn’t know about TMs.

  2. I think I know which one you guys niqed… In any case, I agree that you got a good deal.

  3. The more i think about niq, the more i like it. Aside from the iq angle, it reads like “Nick” You’ll never ever get nick.com, so this is the next best thing. It fails the radio test but a simple “visit N. I. Q. .com” in the copy would resolve that.
