Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Friday May 1st, 2020

You’re going to see my name below as the domain of the day. I don’t sell a lot of domains at auction but its obviously an advantage to have a blog that lists domain for sale to help get the names eyeballs. The point of the daily post wasn’t to help me promote names. It was to help others sell names and me to make commission for the eyeballs mentioned above. And a place to write some random shit each day. Both have their fans and their haters.

I mentioned my purchase of LasPlayas on a Domain Sherpa episode a few years ago. I bought the name at a Godaddy closeout because it means “The Beaches” in Spanish. Its also a Spanish word that a lot of non Spanish speaking people know. It’s had a few offers but never anything over $1000 so I’ve never sold it. But then LaPlaya which means “the Beach” came up for expiry auction and went for over $8K. When you get a comp like that you have to take advantage so I put it up for auction at no reserve. I have $12 and some time into it so not much to lose and like I said above, its about as good of a time as I can think to put it up.

I’ve proven many times that a private name doesn’t go for anywhere near as much as an expiry name BUT that’s not exactly true. No reserve names often do as well because they don’t have the ugly red “below reserve” message. The only problem is that you are risking that nobody will see it or nobody will want it at that particular time so you could get screwed. I have a little better chance than most in that I can put it here and get a few bids. I don’t have the ability to make a name worth any more and nobody thinks my domains are any better than anyone elses. Its just pure visibility. That and the fact they know I’m a lazy fuck and barely respond to offers and never put any effort into selling so its practically a virgin name after I have it.

Domain of the Day: As talked about above Names at Auction or Dropping The dot to works with keywords that make it a call to action. Fund is a perfect example and the price shows that others agree I know its two words but data names are so hard to get in dot com so it may be worth a shot Sounds kind of eSportish Not a call to action but a pretty big business Its past tense but it feels good to get one
