I was watching the Beastie Boys documentary last night and it pretty much was a soundtrack of my childhood. I listened to Licensed to Ill and Paul’s Boutique all day for years. I had the rare experience of seeing them in March of 1987 at the Aragon Ball Room in downtown Chicago. It was one of the craziest nights ever. I kept tickets from all my Beastie Boys tickets so I dug them up. See below.
I lived near a place called Poplar Ridge (now a golf course). Poplar Ridge was an outdoor amphitheater. During the course of 7 summers, between college, Chicago theaters and Poplar Creek, I saw probably 150 concerts. You name them in the 80s and early 90s I’m pretty sure I saw them. Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, INXS, Jane’s Addiction, REM, Bob Dylan, The Smithereens, the HooDoo gurus, and so many more. I took it for granted back then but in hindsight it was pretty cool. I haven’t gone to a to many concerts in the last 10 years but if I do I get pretty good seats. A couple Pearl Jam concerts and a few others. I can’t stay up late enough
