Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Saturday July 21st , 2018

Escrow.com

You’ve read my mantra here on my blog.  “Outsmart the Dumb and Outwork the Smart”.  My birthday was yesterday and I tend to reflect on things on my birthday and one thing I am most proud of is the hard work I put in.  I’m really not naturally good at anything , but I put in the hours.  I am very patient and I realize that in order to become good at something it takes a long time. You have to do it several hours a day, every day, for years.   I hear constantly from people my age why they can’t do something.  They’re too old.  Don’t have the time. I had an injury doing something at some time that won’t let me.  All true in their mind but they could if they really wanted to.   Take running.  People always have a reason why they can’t run.  None of them its boring and too much work.  I have running partners that have had 3 knee surgeries.   I have a biking partner with stage 4 cancer.   I broke my neck and tore my brachial plexus and at one time weighed 225 pounds.   All of the people I mentioned get up  EVERY, SINGLE, DAY and work hard at becoming a good runner.   We meet at 5:15 am to run track workouts, run hard runs that put our heart to the test.  It fucking hurts. I am sore almost every day.   I have to get massages, take ice baths, eat a practically perfect diet to fuel my body.  And sleep 7 hours a day.   That’s what it takes for a 49 year old man to be fast.   Being fast is not necessary and really serves no purpose other than to push yourself to your limits. Getting fast is like anything you really want. It is there for the taking if you but you have to give up a lot of things to reach it.

I can substitute almost any goal in the above equation.  You can accomplish anything you want but it is going to take a ton of hours and effort. It is going to take away from the things you want to do and really enjoy.  Your family may not like the time required.  You are going to be bad at it for a while.  And it may even cost you money as you become better.  But you will get better.  You may even become great.  You could become one of the best.   But you won’t be great at many things.  Because life only has enough hours for you to be great at a few things.  But making excuses for the other things you aren’t good at merely discredits the people that put in the hours.

I see people that are better than me at everything I do.  Even the things I am very good at I know people that are so much better. I accepted that at a young age.  I was one of the best players in North Carolina back in the 80s.  I was pretty cocky because of it.  I moved to Chicago and joined a team with two All Americans at forward.  Not only was I not one of the best players in the state anymore. I wasn’t even the best forward on my own team.  I had to move to sweeper because the key scoring positions had better players already.   That was the turning point in my outlook on life.  Do your best, play smart, work hard, keep at it, and eventually you will be much better than you are now.  It may not be better than others, but you will be better than your old self

And yesterday as I turned 49 I sat back and realized that I am better than my old self. That’s good enough for me. Here are today’s names.  Click through to see the current price

    1. Thanks Tim and Michael. I changed the date on Facebook. Don’t want to waste everyone’s time making them give the required Happy Birthday. 🙂

  1. “better than your old self” That’s exactly right! Good article Shane, Happy birthday!

  2. Happy Birthday! I run every day at lunch in 90 degrees and treadmill in the winter – I am not as fast as you nor do I have the dedication to be that fast. I do it for my health and my family. My wife is fast!
I will be 54 and I hurt most days – no excuses. You can sit around and drink beer-eat chips and gain weight but why? I dont understand why people abuse their bodies.
I am not as fast as you and I dont make as much money as you but I am not jealous – I watch and learn. “Do or do not, there is no try”

    1. Richard,
You get some running partners and meet early in the morning and it will change your life. No more treadmills and mid day or night runs. The fact that you are moving and running alone is fantastic. The rest is gravy
