It’s hard to believe that 6 weeks ago when I said I was mass registering 5L.com pattern domains that they would be eaten up so quickly. There were MILLIONS to be had. When I was registering them there were a few hundred thousand that were repeaters left. Now they are down to a few thousand. Sure there are still a lot with vowels left but I think the Chinese loved letter names will be sold out soon. I expected 6 months, not six weeks. I also am officially acknowledging the LLLL.net and the LLLL.org market. One of the great things about keeping in touch with other larger domainers is they are nice enough to share information about the market before it goes public. People that crunch numbers for a living gave me info that the LLLL.org were being registered by the thousands this weekend. The same people that called to say that the 5L.com patterns were starting to really pick up. It’s not “inside” information. Just information that people are nice enough to share with me because they know I love this stuff. So far they have been right on the money. And they’ve kept me in it. Here are today’s names. Hello Shane,
One thing that I have not seen explained in any detail is who the buyers of these domains are. Obviously they are Chinese but is it a couple of heavy hitters, 20 or so investors or more than that?
I think a post explaining who the buyers, what you believe their long term motivations are (buy and hold) are and how you see the market expanding would be good, if possible.
Anthony,
My opinion is they see them as investments. Nothing more. They see them as something that they can buy and sell for more later. There are a lot of examples of things people buy, never touch, and are traded on a market. I have never had a barrel of oil in my house but I have traded it. A lot of oil is used but 10X (made up number) more trades than is actually used. Long term motivation is money. If it doesn’t go up in value they will start dropping. I think the money coming in is good enough to hold prices up. There will be price swings with the best upward price movement coming to the most desirable to the Chinese. I just wish we all knew exactly which ones those are. I have mine in LLLL.com where I feel the most safe. Only because I was in them before the Chinese and doing fine
Cheers Shane, appriciated.
BJ in China is short for Beijing. Thats why the 5L’s on the list are getting high bids.
Thanks Koosah. I totally forgot about that. I remember the BJNNNN were getting good results so I should have remembered. Thanks again
Hi Shane – I see you doubled down with 100 recent purchases of 5L’s beginning with “ss” – What are your thoughts about NNLL and LLNN – I see
they are are gobbled up as well?
James,
Ha. Yeah, I figured there was one last chance to get a few names at reg fee before they were all gone. And I think they all are now. Its funny because they were disappearing as I regged them. I kept it simple with the SS thing. I had a list of the last 43,000 left and picked my favorite double letter
SShane
And James,
I don’t see why NNLL and vice versa won’t go up in value. Heck there are less of them than the 5L but I can only research so many areas and I haven’t checked it at all.
Checked last night – 4L.org’s of a super-premium or Chinese premium design are sold out. There’s still some 4L Western premiums (WEPS?) out there, along with a few pronounceables. Next up will be the usual mishmash of four characters…
