DSAD—> Shane’s LIST of Domain Auction Picks: Stewsday Tuesday

It’s hard to believe that 6 weeks ago when I said I was mass registering pattern domains that they would be eaten up so quickly.  There were MILLIONS to be had.  When I was registering them there were a few hundred thousand that were repeaters left.  Now they are down to a few thousand.  Sure there are still a lot with vowels left but I think the Chinese loved letter names will be sold out soon.  I expected 6 months, not six weeks.  I also am officially acknowledging the and the market.  One of the great things about keeping in touch with other larger domainers is they are nice enough to share information about the market before it goes public.  People that crunch numbers for a living gave me info that the were being registered by the thousands this weekend.  The same people that called to say that the patterns were starting to really pick up.  It’s not “inside” information.  Just information that people are nice enough to share with me because they know I love this stuff.   So far they have been right on the money. And they’ve kept me in it. Here are today’s names. Click for current prices.
.  12 years old and a Western and Chinese Premium.   Easy over $3K
.  I can’t think of a better name to use to sell babies.  15 bids
.   Has reached four figures despite the V and the vowel
.   Super Car or sports car in Spanish.  That’s why there are so many bids  Lots of 8s and that’s the trophy of the numerics.  Three trophies here
.  Everyone is concentrating on the consonants so you can sweep in and take the vowels. Maybe next year these will be in favor.
.  No bidders. Last time I checked New York was still the mecca for interior decorators
.   These are sold out and up and away they go……..I think.
.  It’s good to know that with all this China stuff that Forex names still have great value after all these years
.   The lack of 4s and 0s draws your attention. The triple 5 keeps you there
.  Over $100 already.  Probably means something in Chinese.  Don’t buy blindly but the bids sure make it worth watching
.   Primo so $3K.
.  Don’t like dot co but the number overcomes that thought
.  Over $100 as well.  Since I own 100s of these I have to be a little excited
.  The 4L.nets are flying right now.  Look at this one
.  This one as well.  I see Please, actually I see profits
.  You might as well buy up as many as you can.  They are certainly going up.  My opinion only.  Only buy if YOU want to.
.  I love this one as well
.  This one is doing great.  I’ll pretend like I know why its so much better than the rest  Nevermind, they are all doing well.  I don’t pay attention for one week and I’m already $100 off
.  Even with a 4 and a 0 its worth Over $1K
.  The types of patterns of 5L.coms that are starting to get bids
.  This one as well.
6–  Now this is F’d up.  There are 6 or 8 of these getting bids.
.  My favorite coming up

. I think this does the best out of all the LLLL.coms on the board today

. 19 Year old 5L.  Certainly didn’t buy because it was Chinese but going to sell because it is
.  Upgrade name for several companies.
.   Awesome dot net .   Going to do very very well.    I haven’t really been in the market for these for a few years so I actually don’t know how much they go for now
.  Good name to showcase Vines.  I guess you could sell them too. Vines the plant
.   Vegan is a lifestyle.  A lifestyle that spend a lot more on bad tasting food
.  The best type of you can buy right now.  But a vowel form

  1. Hello Shane,

One thing that I have not seen explained in any detail is who the buyers of these domains are. Obviously they are Chinese but is it a couple of heavy hitters, 20 or so investors or more than that?

I think a post explaining who the buyers, what you believe their long term motivations are (buy and hold) are and how you see the market expanding would be good, if possible.

    1. Anthony,

My opinion is they see them as investments. Nothing more. They see them as something that they can buy and sell for more later. There are a lot of examples of things people buy, never touch, and are traded on a market. I have never had a barrel of oil in my house but I have traded it. A lot of oil is used but 10X (made up number) more trades than is actually used. Long term motivation is money. If it doesn’t go up in value they will start dropping. I think the money coming in is good enough to hold prices up. There will be price swings with the best upward price movement coming to the most desirable to the Chinese. I just wish we all knew exactly which ones those are. I have mine in where I feel the most safe. Only because I was in them before the Chinese and doing fine

  2. Hi Shane – I see you doubled down with 100 recent purchases of 5L’s beginning with “ss” – What are your thoughts about NNLL and LLNN – I see
they are are gobbled up as well?

    1. James,

Ha. Yeah, I figured there was one last chance to get a few names at reg fee before they were all gone. And I think they all are now. Its funny because they were disappearing as I regged them. I kept it simple with the SS thing. I had a list of the last 43,000 left and picked my favorite double letter

    2. And James,

I don’t see why NNLL and vice versa won’t go up in value. Heck there are less of them than the 5L but I can only research so many areas and I haven’t checked it at all.

  3. Checked last night –’s of a super-premium or Chinese premium design are sold out. There’s still some 4L Western premiums (WEPS?) out there, along with a few pronounceables. Next up will be the usual mishmash of four characters…
