At the end of the month my dreaded work schedule change is supposed to start. They’re switching us from 24 hours on 72 hours off, to 24 hours on 48 hours off with a “kelly” day once every 28 days. A kelly day means that a shift drops off keeping the average hours worked to 48 a week. With the current schedule we work an average of 42 hours a week. We knew this was coming, and I think I talked about it before, but now it’s really supposed to happen.
They’re supposed to give us 20 something days as a notice per county policy, but that’s not happening as I have no idea what shift I’m on or what days I work.
The timing is a little suspicious since they agreed to bargain with us in July, lol. Nothing like agreeing to collective bargaining and then making unilateral changes right before the time you agreed to do it.
We wanted nothing other than to maintain our current schedule and benefits, now not only is the schedule changing but other things like overtime have been taken away. Preciously we would make overtime at 53 hours in a week, now we don’t get overtime till 212 hours in 28 days, so any vacation or sick day will cancel out an overtime shift.
It’s not the end of the world, I still like coming to work and enjoy my job, but it’s nice knowing that I could tell them to F off and just do domains full time.
