Living on a college campus I have already seen on DAY 1 what happens when college athletes can now sign endorsement deals and get paid. Immediately players on the basketball team signed with the local Credit Union and car dealers. Tweets with coupon codes and announcements of their new deals. It’s great to see.
If you are outside of the US or live under a rock, many states and finally the NCAA, agreed to allow athletes to get paid for endorsing products and signing autographs. College athletes have never received compensation for the billions of dollars that were being made on them. Now they can sign their own deals for any amount they can get. Heck my daughter can go with her Cross Country team and see if anyone wants to pay them to do a commercial for their business. If anyone wants 15 fit, cute athletes to sign with their brand let me know.
In the past anything done was done under the table. And there was a lot done under the table. I witnessed it in college. Star football players that came from no money had brand new sports cars. Or jobs that paid 3 times the normal rate but didn’t really have to go to work. That all goes away. Now they can be official. And how do domains come into this? They don’t. Because athletes own their name and domain squatters are going against exactly what they are trying to stop. People making money off of recognizable athletes’ names. There are a million ways to make money in domain investing but squatting on brands and people is not one of them.
