Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday, December 12th, 2022

I was like a lot of kids in the late 70s and early 80s in that I collected beer cans. Yeah, it was a big thing. It still goes on today but no doubt it peaked during those times. How I got into it is a little different. My neighborhood was expanding pretty quickly but there was one section of woods where they didn’t seem to build. Skipped about 20 acres. It was thick woods and perfect for a 10 year old to build a fort. So I did. Lots of them.

The problem was, every time I would build one, I would come back in a few days and someone would tear it down. And these weren’t normal forts. These were made of real wood and were up in the trees with trapdoors and multiple rooms. Would take 30 hrs to build and 2 to tear down. So I decided to build a “hidden’ fort. I would dig a hole and then cover it with beams and wood and then cover that with a foot of leaves and twigs so nobody would see it and it didn’t feel too odd if you walked over it. It worked really well. Nobody ever found it and I enjoyed days of eating Little Debbies in my fort. Until it rained. Then it became a swimming pool. My sump pump system had yet to be installed and since I had no electricity it would be on backorder for a decade or so. So I decided to move my fort to higher ground and dig there.

It turns out the reason it was higher ground and no homes had been built is that it was the dump for the local area in the 20s through the 50s. A mountain of trash. I knew this because as I dug I found all kinds of old bottles, cans and home items. Really cool things to a 10-year-old and even my parents asked “Where did you get these things?” One of the things I found was an oil can-like thing that had Budweiser on it. I was pretty sure Bud didn’t make oil. Turns out it was an old beer can style where they would put a cork in the top. Most younger people don’t know it was cone top, then a flat lid that you use a can opener to open, then pull tab, then pop top. Cone tops turned out to be valuable but mine had a little rust on them. So I learned about Naval Jelly and started cleaning up the best ones I found. I sold a few through magazine ads. I would take pictures of mine and people would offer me money and send a check. No AOL yet. No internet. Magazines and papers were about it. I found later year beer cans as well and thus my collection started. Writing this reminds me I need to get some pictures of them. Because yes, I still have my beer can collection and the cans I found 40 years ago. I have been yelled at by several generations including my wife but now they are pretty cool to have around although my wife is on the fence. Ok, the other side of the fence but they’re still pretty cool. Pics coming

Domain of the Day: FuelPrices.com Definitely going to crush it if built out. And it can be several different fuels, gasoline, propane, natural gas. Commodity trading site would work well here
