Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wednesday, March 6th, 2024

I don’t have many regrets, I’ve done some amazing things but one of them was not doing more climbing, hiking and snow skiing when I was younger. My Dad loved to ski and went to Colorado when he could afford it but he hurt himself pretty bad one trip and it just wasn’t affordable for us growing up. Skiing was also frowned upon by our coaches. They knew we were kids and would do it anyway but it didn’t go well with in-season training. But it really came down to money. Skiing and guided climbing are wealthy family sports if you live in the Midwest or South. I realize a hike doesn’t have to be expensive. I mean more that it wasn’t what we did. I didn’t have fraternity brothers want to go climb 14ers. They wanted to go boating in Destin or drive to Key West. Maybe some drinking at a house in Boone. It wasn’t the norm.

After college, it was the same financial problem. Then in my 20s and 30s, all our trips were to beaches. Great beaches, Hawaii, etc not the mountains. Kids love the beach and the mountains were hit-and-miss. If money was tight we could drive to Hilton Head or Gulf Shores and do a cheap week. Ironically my daughter loves to ski now but that’s because she’s gone to college on the East Coast and now Ivy League where it’s almost a requirement.

To be fair, the middle part of your life, 30 years, is dedicated to your job and your family. It’s not really about you. You are trying to raise good kids and save some money. Not trying to become an incredible mountaineer or a great skier.

I’m now watching these amazing videos of climbs, cross-country skiing, and ski tours that I’m just not good enough to do. Pretty sure there isn’t enough time left to become good at them when you’re starting from scratch. My body is fairly strong and tough but lateral movement takes its toll. An easy ski, no problem. Cross-country ski UP 4000 feet climb crushes me.

It’s not over yet. I think I can get in some pretty good winter shape . I am going to try and learn some winter sports skills and see where I can get. I have plenty of motivation though as I see 70-year-olds flying by me on skis as I labor uphill. As I said, I regret not starting earlier in my love of the mountains but overall I’m very fortunate to have done a lot of fun and exciting things. I’ve also raised a child who is doing what I wish I had done and I enjoy watching that as much as doing it myself.

Have a name at auction and need more exposure? Send me an email. We Charge $10 per name per day. We may be able to help. If you have an auction you want to promote, email us for details. All names were chosen by us, Shane, Travis, and/or Josh . Everything we say is based on our research or is opinion. Do your due diligence. That means look it up yourself if you don’t think the stats or our opinion is correct. We hand choose the names but we are paid to make this list by both the auction houses, registrars, and individuals that are auctioning names. Keep that in mind and only buy names that YOU think are good.
