Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Friday, May 1st, 2026

One of the things that bothers me about current culture is the negativity surrounding wealth and hard work. There is a tendency to label everyone who is wealthy as “bad” and high achievers as “try-hards.”

Wealth used to be a goal. You worked to provide your family, your children, and yourself with a better life, it was the American Dream. Now, kids who go to good schools, drive reliable cars, and inherit money are labeled “nepo babies” who haven’t accomplished anything on their own, often before they even have the chance to do so. Obviously, providing wealth for your children is a privilege, but do you know what the real privilege is? Having two parents who love you and give you the ability to try hard things, bet on yourself, and fail. Knowing that if you fail, you won’t end up on the streets because you have people who support and love you regardless, that is privilege.

To hinder the desire or the ability to give your family a “head start” makes no sense to me. I would do anything to make my daughter’s life better than mine. My life is great, and I want my daughter to build on that. That doesn’t make her a better or worse person, yet in today’s world, she will be labeled as worse. Politicians love to lean into the “tax the rich” narrative because if you tax a wealthy person $100,000, you can give ten less fortunate people $10,000 each, gaining ten votes while only losing one. It makes sense for politicians because their only job now is to get votes; bettering society doesn’t seem to be among their goals.

The reality is that living a happy life has a monetary tie to it. Money is a component of happiness. I don’t care what anyone says. Does it take as much as people think? Absolutely not. People buy houses that are too big, cars that are more than they need, and spend money on countless unnecessary things. Yet, a certain base of income and assets is required to remove the financial burdens that come with a lack of wealth. Borrowing money for college at high interest rates can put you behind for decades. Remove those obstacles, and your wealth-building years begin in your early 20s rather than your mid-30s, the best years of your life.

If you talk to an older person, the thing they want more than anything is to get back their youth. What did they do in their youth? Usually, they struggled to keep their heads above water. If I can teach my daughter what I believe is important, and give her a bit of a head start, I am fulfilling my dream. Having others tell her she is a bad person for that is ridiculous. I didn’t steal it; I earned it and worked my ass off for it. I also went without so that she doesn’t have to. That is the American Dream and the reason people have come to this country for 300 years. We need to lean into that instead of demonizing it.
