Domain Spotlight:

Shane’s List of Domains at Auction for Monday, April 13th, 2026

I haven’t watched a Premier League game in five years, but when I joined the Domain Fantasy Football League, I already knew I’d probably end up in the top half. It wasn’t because I’m some hidden tactical genius or because I have an inside track on stats; it’s simply because most people are quitters. We all do it. We sign up for something that sounds exciting in the moment, but then we get bored, or we realize it’s actually going to take a real chunk of our time, and we slowly back out. When I first agreed to join, I sat down and asked myself if I was actually willing to put in the work. I knew I’d have to spend time watching player form and tracking injuries, especially since I was starting from zero. As it turns out, I actually love the process of testing strategies and building lineups based on who’s playing well. It took me forever to get to know the players again, but after a good few weeks lately, I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. Not a ton of weeks left in the league, but next year I think I can be much more competitive.

Since this is just a fantasy league with no prize and no entry fee, nobody really cares if you stop adjusting your lineup. It’s low stakes, but it’s still a perfect metaphor for life. I see people all the time who have a great life, and then they decide to start a new business. Suddenly, that business starts eating their entire day and swallowing up their free time. It sounded like a great idea at the start, but now it’s taking away the very thing they worked so hard to achieve in the first place.

You might think that’s just a “you problem,” but I’m very cognizant of how I spend my time and energy. Every single thing I agree to do, I run through the same filter: Am I willing to put in the time every single day to make this work? Do I actually have that time available? And most importantly, do I want to spend it that way, and where exactly is that time coming from? If I can’t answer those questions, I don’t sign up. Winning the top half of a league is not the same as putting the time into a real business. Over the last few years, I exited the jobs I took, not because I wasn’t willing to put in the time. I wasn’t willing to put in the time for someone else anymore. Took me twice to figure it out. Now it’s for me. Sure I have partners. Here with Travis and Winterline with Sean. But those are amplifications of effort. Working with them makes me better. Not more work. Not for them but for us. That I am willing to put in the time for. Make sure to ask yourself those same questions as you add responsibilities going forward.
